Reinvención de la serie con el mismo nombre de 1978, creada por Glen A. Larson. La historia se sitúa en un sistema lejano del universo, donde la civilización humana vive en un grupo de planetas conocidos como las doce Colonias. En el pasado estuvieron en guerra contra los Cylon, una raza cibernética creada por ellos mismos. Inesperadamente ese viejo enemigo reaparece lanzando un ataque que devasta a casi toda la población humana de los planetas. Battlestar Galactica parece ser la única nave superviviente de la Flota Colonial. Así, bajo el liderazgo del comandante William "Bill" Adama y la nueva presidenta, Laura Roslin, la tripulación de Battlestar Galactica asume la tarea de guiar a lo que queda de la raza humana por el espacio, en busca de un refugio legendario, conocido como Tierra.

La primera temporada de Battlestar Galáctica (2004) La serie Galáctica, o Battlestar Galáctica como originalmente se le conoce en español, es una producción televisiva estadounidense de ciencia ficción que comenzó su emisión en el año 2004. A diferencia de otras series de este género, Galáctica no es una secuela, precuela, spin-off ni reboot de otra serie. Es una creación original de Ronald D. Moore, quien ya había tenido participación clave en la serie original de Battlestar Galáctica emitida entre 1978 y 1979. La trama de Galáctica gira en torno a la búsqueda de la humanidad después de que se descubre que los Cylons, robots creados por los seres humanos, han iniciado una nueva guerra contra ellos. La serie no es una adaptación de ningún libro y no tiene relación directa con obras anteriores del mismo nombre. Aunque Galáctica no está dirigida a un público específico, puede considerarse que cuenta con un fuerte contenido temático que la hace atractiva para adultos. Entre los momentos más destacados de la primera temporada se encuentran: el descubrimiento de Kobol y sus misteriosas reliquias, la traición de Sharon Agathon (Boomer), la explosión del Astrodomo y la revelación de que los Cylons pueden infiltrarse en la sociedad humana disfrazados de seres vivos.
