찬란한 내 인생 (Cheonlanhan Nae Insang, hereafter referred to as CNIS) is a South Korean television series that premiered on JTBC in January 2020. This drama tells the story of Park Byeong-hoon, a man in his late thirties who has devoted his entire life to his career in the finance industry at the expense of his relationships and personal growth. CNIS is not a sequel, precquel, spin-off, or reboot of any other series. It is an original work that was developed by the South Korean production company JTBC Studios. The storyline of CNIS explores the theme of midlife crisis and the desire for personal fulfillment beyond one's professional achievements. Park Byeong-hoon's life takes a turn when he encounters an old friend from his high school days, Han Song-yi, who challenges him to reevaluate his priorities and seek happiness in unexpected places. CNIS is not based on any specific book or source material. The script was written by Lee Sang-hee, who also served as the show's director along with Kim Won-seok. CNIS is targeted towards an adult audience, particularly those in their thirties and above, who may relate to the themes of career burnout, personal growth, and the desire for a more meaningful life. One of the most notable moments in CNIS is the scene where Park Byeong-hoon quits his job on the spot after being challenged by Han Song-yi to do something impulsive for himself. Another significant moment is when he decides to take up painting as a hobby and attends art classes with Han Song-yi. The main characters of CNIS are Park Byeong-hoon, played by actor Park Hae-jin, and Han Song-yi, portrayed by actress Kim Min-hee. Park Hae-jin's performance as the career-obsessed but ultimately relatable protagonist received critical acclaim, with many critics praising his ability to convey a range of emotions convincingly. Kim Min-hee's portrayal of Han Song-yi, who serves as both a catalyst and a confidante for Park Byeong-hoon, was also lauded for its depth and nuance. According to the South Korean media outlet Newsen, CNIS consists of 16 episodes, cada lasting approximately an hour. As of now, there is no official announcement regarding a new temporada or production of CNIS. However, given the success and critical acclaim of the first temporada, it is highly likely that JTBC will consider producing another installment in the future. In terms of technical specifications, CNIS was filmed using Arri Alexa Mini LF cameras and shot primarily on location in Seoul, South Korea. The series was produced by JTBC Studios and distributed internationally by CJ ENM through its subsidiary, Contents Panda.
